Helping Hands Hawaii Ready to Learn Program to Hold a School Supply Drive Kickoff Event at Aloha Tower Marketplace
Donations to Benefit Helping Hands Hawai‘i
(HONOLULU, HI) – Helping Hands Hawaii "Ready To Learn", in conjunction with The Scion Evolution Hawai‘i Car Club, Servco Scion and the Hawai‘i Superferry, will be holding the 4th Annual School Supply Drive as well as car show and on Sunday, May 25, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Aloha Tower Marketplace along the Boat Days Promenade (fronting historic Aloha Tower).
Admission is FREE, but all attendees are asked to bring a donation of school supplies to help needy children get ready to go back to school. The public can enjoy a variety of activities, such as interactive games; prize giveaways, including trips on the Hawai‘i Superferry; and a jackpot machine for a chance to win a Scion xD.
Suggested donations include, but are not limited to: 24-count crayons, composition books, plastic erasers, glue (4 oz.), scissors (4.5 inch), portfolios, new or used backpacks, calculators, folder paper (college or wide rule), No. 2 pencils, ball point pens (med. pt., black or blue), spiral notebooks (one subject), rulers
“According to Census 2000 data and information from Hawai‘i’s Second Harvest – the nation’s Food Bank Network – 11.6 percent of Hawai‘i’s 295,615 children lived below the poverty line in 2003 and cannot afford basic school supplies,” said Scott Morishige of Helping Hands Hawai‘i. In 2007, Ready to Learn & Helping Hands Hawai‘i collected and distributed school supply packets to over 12,000 of Hawai‘i’s keiki statewide. These children were identified by social workers at over 60 different social service agencies throughout the state.

There will be over 20 of Hawai'is badest tricked-out rides on display.

Scion Evolution Hawai‘i, founded in February 2004, is one of 33 chapters nationwide and is the largest Scion owners club with 130 members. The club spearheads service projects such as the school supply drive for Helping Hands Hawai‘i, Toys for Tots, and various food drives.
